About InsureMoreVirginians.net

How it Started

InsureMoreVirginians.net is operated by Community Health Resource Center, Inc. under a contract with the Virginia Department of Health Office of Minority Health and Public Health Policy, with additional support provided by Community Health Solutions, Inc.

The idea for InsureMoreVirginians.net originated with an advisory group formed as part of Virginia’s State Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.  The Greater Richmond Health Coverage Steering Committee included representatives from the public, private, and nonprofit sectors.

In 2006, the Steering Committee identified health coverage education as an important function for increasing health coverage in Virginia.   Building upon this idea, staff from the Virginia Department of Health and Community Health Resource Center, Inc. worked together to craft the concept which led to this website.

1. The Customers

InsureMoreVirginians.net serves uninsured individuals, families, and small employers throughout Virginia.

2. The Mission

The mission of InsureMoreVirginans.net is to expand health coverage by educating uninsured Virginians about the value of health coverage, their health coverage options, and how to acquire health coverage.

3. The Vision

The driving vision of InsureMoreVirginians.net is a Virginia in which:

  • No individual or family goes without health coverage for lack of knowledge about their options.
  • No small employer goes without health coverage for lack of knowledge about their options.

4. The Strategy

InsureMoreVirginians.net is the first step in a social marketing strategy aimed at mobilizing uninsured individuals and small employers to get educated about their health coverage options.  Our immediate strategy for 2008 is to launch InsureMoreVirginians.net with the help of the Health Coverage Education Network and Community Partners

We will rely heavily on Community Connectors - insurance brokers, social workers, community service providers, and others -  to share their knowledge with us, and in turn help spread the information and tools available from InsureMoreVirginians.net.  We will rely on Community Partner organizations to provide information, help spread the message that 'coverage matters,' and promote this website.

A longer-term strategy for 2009 and beyond could include:

  • More comprehensive social marketing strategies including print and electronic media buys.

  • Educational conferences and workshops aimed at promoting the value of health coverage and clarifying the process of acquiring health coverage.

  • Non-partisan policy education to inform decision makers about the status of health coverage and the potential impact of prospective health coverage initiatives.
